End of the first week of Nano. When I first started the book my characters ended up a lot differently than I thought they would. And the story took a twist I wasn’t expecting. However, I still managed to write today. Since I work during the week, I can only catch up on the weekend. Today my word count stared at me as being very lacking. I had to write 2,412 words today. I ended up surprising myself by writing 2,621 words today! Without Word Wars!
Over the past couple of years by this point I had given up on the story ever being serious and ended up doing weird tricks to increase my word count. (My most favorite ones will be listed below.) But this year is different. The story flows and the only things I end up doing is putting Diego’s full name in there (Diego De Silva) easily an extra two words every time I say his name 😀 and changing words like don’t into do not. Things are actually going good. I’m on par and the book is fun!
Next Saturday I will let you know more about a few of the other characters in the book. But we’ll see what’s going on then. I may be too busy to write a blog and end up vanishing until the end of November.
As promised my favorite tricks to help my word count.
Dark Dreams, NaNo 2010 The Plague
“It was the year of the black plague of London from the year thirteen hundred forty-eight Ano Domini. Back when this life was simple before the Black plague that attacked her village. For it was during The black plague of london from the year thirteen hundred forty-eight Ano Domini left many people without parents, cows, dogs, cats, rats, mice, children, moms, dads, husbands, wives, spouses, siblings, brothers, sisters, horses, lamps, hamsters, miniature schnauzers, tortoise, turtles, sea creatures, fish, and many others, to the point where it gave an over abundance of rats and mice that carried the fleas provided them with the plague of london from the year thirteen hundred forty-eight Ano Domini, to that end the plague of london from the year thirteen hundred forty-eight Ano Domini destroyed many of the people, leaving only a third of parents, cows, dogs, cats, rats, mice, children, moms, dads, husbands, wives, spouses, siblings, brothers, sisters, horses, lamps, hamsters, miniature schnauzers, tortoise, turtles, sea creatures, fish, and many others, there were also the witch hunts that destroyed many people’s lives as their people were killed by thinking that they were witches. The witch hunts of this year were also terrible. They killed many women and cats that people believed were witches that were actually innocent females! Cats were killed because they were believed to be the witches familiars. And thus the witch hunts were far more dangerous than the black plague.” 238 words of awesome there I think I used this about five times.
The Dark Prince, NaNo 2007, supernames!
This was actually my first NaNo. I was getting desperate in the final months of this stupid challenge and was ready to throw my laptop across the room! So I ended up taking I think 6 people and making their names super long. Example
“Sarrasi Violanna Desara Rasinco, the Elen Arenal, Princess of the Stars, Lady of the Lands of the Majesti, born to Assassin Tartalix Rosanne Hawk Katern of the Phoenix Lands (of which she was sister of the queen) and Salvidor Alexander Noah Rasinco Head Wizard of the Wizards of the Son (over which he governs and trains students), protector of the Onix stone and altogether most awesome middle child ever” (roughly 70 words every time her name was mentioned)
Every NaNo (and SuNo (Summer Novel Writing Month)), the downright evil,
“That was downright evil, my love, but beautiful to behold.” (I know it’s not much but it was a running gag for a while XD) I think that I used it seven times before as my record (now let’s see if I can stick this into Trigger as a joke)
Again every NaNo (and SuNo), The email theory
Any time that I did NaNo and SuNo in order to get my word count up anything I wrote in reply to anything (blog posts, RPG posts, random emails, etc during the month of November) became a whole other page. It kept it away from the writing, but my word count still went up. Win-win. Especially the replies that were a couple hundred words long. I didn’t cheat, I just made it awesome.
And there you have it. My tricks to getting your word count amazing. See you next week!
